jedibuttercup: (captain pike)
Two things. First, while watching Star Trek XI again this weekend, I tripped over this bit of dialogue when Nero's torturing Pike:

"I need the subspace frequencies of Starfleet's border protection grids. Specifically those surrounding Earth."

Either this is just an excuse to do what he's gonna do already, and the grids aren't actually a barrier for him, or ... this is a major plot hole. Because you can't tell me Vulcan, being the other founding Federation planet, didn't have a grid of its own. And he can't have got the codes from Spock Prime. So did some ship-capture of Vulcans happen that we never heard about, or what? Can't believe I never noticed before.

Also. ALSO also. [livejournal.com profile] backagainharry is the story that just continues to give and give on the crazy fan front.

My most recent review, on the Pit of Voles: )

Because clearly, I write for TEH FAME AND GLORYZ. *facepalm* I have no idea what 'section' ze's even talking about - most of the people who share that link around do so quite outside my knowledge or prompting. I'd never dare myself, for this exact reason.

Finishing that mofo's going to be like handling an unexploded bomb every time I check my email. Which will be, ugh, probably starting October this year. [livejournal.com profile] lesser_men_saga has been much harder to write, but infinitely saner on the fan front!

What the?

If anyone just got an email from me with only a link in it, please ignore. I think my Yahoo! address just got spoofed; that's the first time that's ever happened to me. And I only know because my work email just got a message from my personal email that I didn't send. Grr.

Check this out: all LJ accounts that are suspended OR inactive? After an obligatory wait period, the LJ scriptmonkeys will now not only delete the account itself, but EVERY COMMUNITY POST AND COMMENT ever made by that account. ('Inactive' includes communities not posted to in 24 months, as well as similarly sluggish LJ's). Details here.

So much for fic communities being good places to find old orphaned stories. Or old fic-comments on comment-fic memes sticking around for future appreciation. Or old RP stories. LJ's value as an archive (what value it had) is going to be totally gutted by this; who knows how many old authors have moved on to other pastures or retreated from fic in the last couple of years, that will be erased from LJ by the change, not to mention comms for older fandoms and pairings where fic can go a couple of years between posts, but which are still the best index point.

I might have to finally put serious thought into investigating DW as more than just a long-fic posting zone.

jedibuttercup: Christian Bale looking shocked (omgwtf)
I usually don't comment publicly about negative reviews I receive on my fanfic, but I'm going to make an exception in this case.

Have any of the rest of you heard from Samael3 of fanfiction dot net? I hope you haven't; and hopefully he (or she) will choke on what I just sent back and rethink his (or her) approach before spewing any more poison. Though I wouldn't hold my breath. Anyway, as follows:

A Review Left by Samael3 on my fic, Annual Report: )

And My Reply, Privately Sent, aka Thank You: )

... So, what do you think? Too much? Too little to penetrate such a thick skull? Click through to the replyer's own FFN page if you want an entertaining read through a prejudiced, small-minded person's profile. I don't care what a person's politics are, Samael3's efforts are not a reasonable approach to reach and change minds; it is, instead, an obvious attempt to attract attention and wank. I cry false advertising, and smile back through bared teeth: Have a nice day.

For those of you who follow me but not the [livejournal.com profile] tthdrabbles comm I moderate, I'll be running a challenge/competiton there for the next six weeks, in which I will reward frequent posters with fic of 1000+ words to their specifications. If you think you can stretch to at least one Buffy-crossover drabble a week, come chip in!

Details of the competition as follows: )

In other news, I was scanning the watchlist for [livejournal.com profile] crossover_news when I came across the following pairing tags in the Smallville newsletter, all for the same fic: Chloliver, Cliana, Bruois, eventual Clois

You know, I've never been especially fond of the smush-name pairing indicators, but I think that's just a leetle excessive. *shudders* WTF are casual readers supposed to make of that kind of coding?

I am now the proud owner of a Veritas Aequitas t-shirt. Rawr. Now all I need is a pair of tickets to the special one-night-only rescreening of BDS on May 22nd. I can't believe our theater is one of the ones participating!

(Oh, and BTW, I most heartily do not recommend American Dreamz. I laughed, and laughed, and laughed-- but mostly with disbelief and embarassment, especially at the ending sequence. Though seeing Willem Dafoe in that chief of staff role so shortly after experiencing him as Agent Smecker? Absolutely priceless, in a whiskey tango foxtrot sort of way).
