Because yet again I started off the year with my BFF, a Disney+ TV show, and Forged in Fire. :)

As usual, I rounded all TV episodes (whether live or DVD) up to the nearest half-hour mark and all movies to two hours total, then added in repeats. I saw zero movies in theater during 2022, a lingering consequence of the plague and none of my usual viewing partners being comfortable resuming; but at home, I indulged in a lot of reality TV, Disney+, Discovery/History Channel, and comfort rewatches. With the 2022 Olympics added in, that came to a total of 940 total hours of on-screen entertainment (2.58 hrs/day) - just slightly under last year's 945.5 (2.59 hrs/day).

Historically, since I started tracking, my average ranged between 1.62 hours/day and 2.52 hours/day until 2020, but roughly two hours/day was the sweet spot. I'm still not getting out nearly as much as I used to, though, and I do watch extra in Olympics years, so last year's slightly higher number repeating is not a surprise. We'll see if this is the new normal going forward.

Cracked the first new book of 2023, so I'm starting my reading list for the year, too.

2020 remains my high-water mark in terms of book count, but despite reading 15 fewer things in 2022 they were on average longer, so I did slightly surpass that total page count this time: 82,557 versus 81,480. That's 225 pages per day, 3 more than in 2020 and 5 more than in 2021. Looks like the reading increase the last couple of years is likely to be a long-lasting change?

In other stats: 39 were non-fiction this time; 8 were re-reads; and 16 were graphic novels. 161 were ebooks, the rest physical.

That's another high-water mark for non-fiction; the previous year's 28 was the former high. 21 of those 39 were historically focused, the rest topical. In genre analysis, of the 212 fictional books: 152 were science fiction and fantasy (of which 22 were media tie-ins, 18 post-apocalyptic, 20 military sf, 20 urban fantasy, and 52 LitRPG); 44 were romance (of which 19 were JAFF); and most of the rest were mystery, thrillers, drama, and so on, many of them in a historical setting. Some overlapped categories. Seven were YA.

So, on to Year Seventeen of book tracking!

Book stats through 240 include 5 rereads, 48 nonfiction, 2 poetry, 9 ya, 154 ebooks and 10 graphic novels.

In 2022, I had three goals: sign up for [community profile] getyourwordsout again, complete the Triple Crown, and clear off some more of those old request lists and WIPs.

I suppose two out of three isn't bad? RL was unexpectedly busy in the latter part of the year, and I ended up not having as much energy as I thought I would to dive into the necessary research, but I did finish up close to the same wordcount as 2021, and for the first time since 2017 more than half of my wordcount came outside of formal AO3 exchanges. Mojo recovery clearly continues.

Goals for 2023: Sign up for [community profile] getyourwordsout, complete the exchange Triple Crown again, and maybe this year finally clear off one of those lingering WIPs!
