Cracked the first new book of 2021 today, so I'm starting my reading list for the year, too.
Hilarious now to look at my opening from last year's list: "125 books is no 144 – IDK how I had that much energy in 2012." *snort* Two things happened in March 2020: one of 'em's obvious, and the other is that I bought myself a Kindle for my birthday. Suddenly, I had the ability to download anything I wanted on a whim; and I had an hour and a half every weekday that I would have been commuting freed up by working from home, plus a severe cut in my social time and shopping time. I probably should have written more instead, but: well, 2020. No one needs my litany; you've all lived your own. So: obvious results were obvious.
2020's bookcount was 266 books, just over twenty-two per month. The average book was shorter than usual, because ebooks, but I still ended up reading a total of 81,480 pages (222 per day), two-thirds again as much as last year. I haven't had that kind of readcount since pre-job days. I don't expect it to ever happen again - crossing my fingers for a better year in 2021!
In other stats: 18 were non-fiction this time; 15 were re-reads; and 11 were graphic novels. 179 were ebooks.
In genre analysis, of the 249 fictional books: 130 were science fiction (20 of which were media tie-ins, and 24 were LitRPG); 47 were fantasy of some variety (epic, urban, steampunk, etc.); and 18 were mystery or thrillers or drama, often in a historical setting. 55 were regency romance (50 of which were Jane Austen Variations). Nine were considered YA.
So, on to Year Fifteen of book tracking!
Book stats through 255 include 14 rereads, 28 nonfiction, 5 ya, 156 ebooks and 20 graphic novels.

Date: 2021-01-04 09:28 am (UTC)The YA books were all scifi - they were obviously simplified for younger audiences, but I did enjoy them a lot. Especially the seven Star Wars books; I always enjoy filling in the corners of that canon. The other two were the Space Janitor books; they were fun too, but I don't know if I'll continue them - the main character acts a little too much like an impulsive teenager even though she's supposed to be older and smarter than that.
