I am really enjoying this. You've got the character development that made series and movie alike so fascinating, but it's more than that. This feels like the second season, the second coming of Firefly and it's weird and wonderful weekly adventuares. The focus is mostly on Mal, but the story doesn't dwell on him or his troubles aside from those related to weaving other characters into his narrative.

I giggled like mad at the idea of Giles-Book, too, so, while a tad incredulous-making, I'm more than interested to see how that plays out. I do hope you keep the vampires out of it, though. Part of what made Firefly so special was how human it was, and how human monsters are often the worst of the worst. I'm ready for more when you've got it!

Wow, I really appreciate hearing that. I've really missed Firefly, and SERENITY only whetted my appetite for more; I've just been trying to explain some things that haven't been, yet, by Joss. Glad to know my version is entertaining other people, too. =)

Don't worry, in my version of the 'verse when Earth-that-Was ceased to be, it took virtually all magic and non-human existence in "our" dimension with it. No Potential Slayer will ever be called now, but they haven't stopped being born, and boy do the future-Watchers have their heads screwed on wrong... I thought that might make for an interesting angle on the whole Academy thing, and the plot took off from there!

Just read all three chapters you've got up here all the way from beginning to end, and I must say it's very shiny indeed. When you said "slight crossover with BtVS" my brain immediately said "OH! He was a Watcher!" Great minds, I guess. LOL

Heh. Yeah, I've seen it done before... but not post SERENITY, and most of those were warm-fuzzy Book stories. My Book is/was a bit on the dark side, I think.

Wow. I only just found this series, but I absolutely ADORE it. Beautiful writing in a voice that is true to the show and true to Mal. Great character work, awesome use of the slayer mythology (I'm very interested to see how far that goes), and wonderful evolution of the story. Wonderful story in general! I can't wait for the next installment. And I'm now very very eager to see what happens with the Tams (that can't go well, but will probably be pretty damn interesting), to see what else is in Book's diary, and how it'll effect the crew.

Damn, you made one fine story here. You've got me hooked.

Thank you! I've been trying hard to compare everything I write to the show, to make it as plausible as possible; glad to hear it's working.

Most of the main plot is aimed along those lines, explored through the medium of Book's diary and River's experiences, though we'll stay firmly in the magic-no-longer-exists Firefly 'verse along the way.

OMG!! That totally makes sense to me! (The whole River-as-Potential-Slayer, Book-as-neo-Watcher thing). Perfect twist - and very nicely done. I love the idea of the Abbey sending Mal Book's diary after his death. Seems like something Book would do.

Yep. Although there'll be much angst to come from the crew as they work through it.

Despite the fact that you said it was a Buffyverse crossover, never in amillion years did this occur to me! I was literallyy speachless when I started reading Book's entry.

I'm a bit like Mal, I'm not sure what to believe regards Book's involvement with this, but wherever you take, it's going to be interesting. *g*

And again, Mal, and Zoe, are completely in character (IMO).

Anyway: DOOD. Love to read about Book, as he's the character I'm pretty much the most curious about. Excellent use of Chinese, and good Mal + Zoe. Just one thing: if YOU were Simon or River, would YOU drop in on your family again? I'm just sayin' ... if my parents had left me for dead and/or didn't believe me when I tried to tell them my sister had been left for dead ... I would pretty much break ties.

And aren't they still worried about Parliament? Mal said in Chapter 1.

Anyway, sorry to leave a really long comment. I'm enjoying this; I truly am. Nice nice NICE job.
