Somehow I had it in my head that I was still missing a spot or two in the Midwest? But when I sat down and counted and checked my trip maps, this is what I came up with:

... Of course, a couple of those were "drove a couple of miles over the border while visiting a neighboring state to check out a winery/Hard Rock Cafe/national monument/etc. and mark the state off the list", or "flew in, took a shuttle from the airport to a hotel at the convention center and basically went nowhere else", but damn, that sure is an awful lot of country. (I can also now say I've been to two other countries! Just Canada and Mexico, but still. Bucket list, folks. One day, when I'm done checking off states, I fully intend to finally cross an ocean.)

Ooh, Wisconsin for some cheese tours! And all of the areas you've yet to visit have some beautiful countryside and some wonderful national parks (I hear Acadia up in Maine is truly spectacular, especially if you hit it in the fall when the leaves are turning). I always enjoy when you post about your road trips. :)

Some years I have less money than others - it's been a couple of years since I had the chance to do one of our long road trips. But it's a blast plotting it out, every time. There will definitely be something cheese-related on the list when we hit Wisconsin (food tourism for the win), and do we make a habit of hitting every National Park we can. :)

maevebran says she can probably afford a short trip to either the Midwest or Southeast this year, hopefully catching the pair of unvisited states in whichever area it ends up being.

Well, you have a friend in Massachusetts and I can help you knock of Maine/CT/RI/NH in a long weekend if you want company! : )

:) The BFF would probably kill me if I went without her, since we've been doing the all-states project together for awhile now, and she won't have the money for a trip to the NE for a couple of years. But I would love to stop by when we finally do get out that way!
