These books have two things in common: (1) I was not yet a teenager when I read them for the first time; and (2) They made enough of an impression that I had to buy them for my own shelves when I left home. If you want more recent favorites, or complete details on why they made the impression they did, the list would be miles long. *grin*

beware the hamilton books. they become more like porn and less like mystery the farther into the series she goes.

*sigh* Yeah, there _used_ to be. Now there's nothing left BUT porn. Badly written, repetitive and (worst of all) boring porn.

You know, you're far from the first person to tell me this, and I find it a little bemusing. I mean, where I'm at in book 4, Anita is refusing to sleep with anyone she's not married to. I guess perhaps after book 6 I'll just check them out of the library until I run into one I can't finish. =)

That's probably a good plan. Who knows--you might like the later books. LKH _does_ still have numerous fans and zealous defenders. But I kinda doubt you will.

I second the previous comment. Don't read any further. Or not much further, anyhow. OBSIDIAN BUTTERFLY is the last decent novel in the series (and follows a couple that were mediocre).

This is turning into a landslide of opinion. Maybe I will stop after book 6, then, and wait to see what kind of reviews any future books in the series get. I was mainly reading them in the first place because Buffyverse/Blakeverse fanfic crossovers are getting so common, and I wanted to know just who all the extra characters were, and what the rules of their universe are. I'm enjoying it so far, but I'm only as far as the middle of "The Lunatic Cafe".

Books

Probably Alongside Night? It's a speculative novel about an America that falls apart, becoming ruled by anarchy rather than democracy. Touch Not the Cat, on the other hand, is pure mystery/romance. Both of these, I borrowed out of Mom & Dad's collection. They'd let me touch anything except the Amanda Quick shelf. =)

One I left off the list though -- can't believe I forgot -- is Pride and Prejudice. I've been a die-hard Austin fan since Aunt Jo gave me P&P when I was, like, 7.

When it comes to Austen fandom, I can totally ignore all kinds of grammatical gaffes. I have a DVD copy of the BBC version of P&P, and have watched it so many times I can almost quote the thing, not to mention doing a scene-for-scene comparison with the book. *grin*
