"More than a year? Wow, I was only dead for five months. Do you remember any of it?"

Buffy gazed with interest across the table at her date. He was brilliant, good-looking, had died more times than she had, and best of all was legally permitted to discuss things with her as the Air Force's representative to the Watcher’s Council. Someone upstairs had decided that the country's two best-kept "weird" secrets should be put into contact; whomever it was, Buffy vowed to track them down and send them chocolate.

"Not much," he replied. "I lost my memory when I returned; that year is still missing. Jack says I visited a few times; he could probably tell you more."

"I hope you didn't show up wearing what you died in." Buffy wrinkled her nose. "They buried me in this really ugly black dress..."

Daniel blinked, and then grinned at her, a brilliant teeth-baring smile that nearly stopped her heart. "No wonder you came back, then," he said.

"Wha, huh?" She wrinkled her brow, confused.

"Old superstition," he explained. "If a woman is buried in black, she will return to haunt the family."

She had to grin back. "Well, that explains it!"

Ha, ha! I like that. :) It would be interesting to have the Slayer take on the Gould sometime... *ponders*

Heh. In my head, this takes place in the same universe as the drabble where Carter becomes a Slayer at the end of Season 6, when Willow does the activation. She blamed it on incorporeal Daniel at the time, of course. I'll probably write a story between that drabble and this one eventually explaining how Sam's new mad skillz triggered a memory for some general or other, and they figured it would be best to contact the Watcher's Council direct before Buffy & Co. found out about the Slayer under the mountain in some other way and decided to "rescue" her from the military.

I wonder how Slayer-Sam would fare against, say, Anubis? *scratching chin thoughtfully*

My website tends to lag a few weeks behind my story posting, but all the older stuff is up there and organized. The fic.post tag will index everything here, too.

I'd recommend not starting the "Lesser Men" series until you have some serious time on your hands, though. It's 200,000 words or so at present and still WIP. =P
