24 Days of X-MAS: THE PROMPT POST RETURNS

Sorry for the delay, guys. The work-project that's been playing havoc with my writing life these last few weeks was supposed to be wrapped up before noon today. *slightly mad laughter* Uh. Yeah. Anyway.

What is the Wishlist?

The Wishlist is a multi-fandom Christmas fanfiction fest. It started very small and simple several years ago: the premise was simply to write twenty-four ficlets in response to twenty-four prompts, posted between 1 Dec and 24 Dec. Fandom gifts, if you will. Since then it's grown and changed a bit.

I have signed up to be a writer. If you want to give me a prompt, please leave a comment on this entry; and if you want to see what I wrote for it in past fests, just click the wishlist tag.

Rules

• I accept the first 24 prompts I am given, regardless of who you are or if I know you.

• You give me characters/pairing, a fandom and a prompt. (Please don't skip the prompt part).



• If I'm not offering the fandom you're requesting, I reserve the right to refuse the prompt.
  
  The current offerings list is: Buffy/Angel-verse (no comics); Stargate SG-1; Firefly/Serenity; Star Trek XI or TOS; The Marvel Cinematic Universe (Avengers, Guardians, etc.); the Fast and the Furious series; Leverage; The Dresden Files; Grimm; Falling Skies; The Walking Dead/Fear the Walking Dead; Person of Interest; Sleepy Hollow; Jurassic Park/World; and the Riddick-verse. (I do sometimes take other requests, especially continuations of other short-stories or short-story series on a case-by-case basis; if it doesn't fit the above fandom list, conditional acceptance mostly depends on how long I've been out of the 'verse and how much research it would take to refresh.)
  
  
• If I find your prompt in any way offensive, I will disregard it, too. Fair warning.



• Your prompts can be for a crossover or not - either is fine - and should be in line with what I usually write. (That's a loose guideline, I know, but basically don't be deliberately ornery, okay? I don't have the energy for it.) It can be a quote, an idea, a specific situation, but the more you give me, the more I have to work with. Throwing Character X/Character Y, 'whatever' at me is going to get you 'whatever'.
  
  (NOTE: If your prompt is longer than 25 words, or if you request an idea that can't reasonably be covered in 500-3000 words? See again: whatever. I'm not a magic story-writing machine, and I already have one full time job!)

• I answer the prompts in the order I like best and post them, one a day, starting 1st, Dec 2015. (At least, that's the goal. I don't always hit it, especially the last year or two given RL events, but whatever I don't make, I'll finish before the next December 1 for sure; I always have).

May I ask for a placeholder?

Since the idea that hit me is a bit convoluted, I'm suggesting two prompts, your choice of which one:

Time twisty, plot bendy prompt, which may or may not work: Terminator/Person of Interest crossover. Characters: John Reese, John Connor, whichever PoI characters you want to toss in. Plot: John Connor's number comes up and he realizes that John Reese is his grandfather when they meet. Who protects who?

A continuation of "Slayer of Interest" or one of your other PoI crossovers.

#1! I'll, um. Think about the Terminator one, at least? Though I hope that you aren't too particular about which version of Terminator canon? :)

(As for work; the three-year technology upgrade cycle happened to coincide with a major companywide software upgrade this year, and the consultants really #&S%ing dropped the ball on us today, the ONE DAY this week we told them everyone would be in the office available to be trained. *snarling* Ahem. Anyway. At least the me-intensive parts are mostly done; everything from here on out is waiting for others to get their stuff straight and then running around trying to help my coworkers come to term with the results.)

Leverage/Star Trek XI crossover: The Leverage crew are hired to do something about corruption in Starfleet after the events of Star Trek Into Darkness.

(If that sounds like it would require more than 3000 words, I can come up with another idea.)

Actually, that might work as a prompt; I really kind of detested Star Trek: Into Darkness overall, despite liking many of its elements, for reasons that just might lend themselves to the Leverage crew's intervention. You're likely to get one or two scenes from the investigation rather than the whole thing; but as long as you don't mind that, it'll probably be fun. :)

I would love the next part to "Adventures In Rome". Imhotep and the Medjai finally meet. Chaos ensues with a bit of Jealous Imhotep when Asim pays a bit to much attention when meeting Buffy.

Ooooh....um, since The Last Witch Hunter just came out and it's not on the list. But if it's acceptable, I'd like to see a crossover between that and FF. Maybe Chloe running into Dom.

If that's not acceptable for reasons of not-seen, Grimm and Leverage? With Spencer, Hardison and Parker making someone's life a living hell?

HMMM. I did, in fact, just see The Last Witch Hunter; though I'll have to make time to see it again if I go with that first idea. Grimm and Leverage might also be an interesting combo; we'll see.

Are you thinking of the cross more in terms of time travel (earth that WAS sort of thing) or in terms of the Walker plague being on some colony world, like a different version of what created the Reavers?

I'll speak up for more Temporally Displaced Americans (Maybe Steve helping Ichabod study for the citizenship test) or Abbie needing to track down something from Colonial Williamsburg and dragging Ichabod along. Ichabod makes snide comments about how some of the buildings have been reconstructed wrong and correcting some of the reenactors. At first they resent it but but by the end of the day Ichabod might have a paying gig as a consultant or something. =)

I ended up prowling through the last several years' worth of prompts in the course of figuring out what to ask for, and marveling at the amount of niftiness that's arisen from this game.

So, in my usual fashion, you get a choice:

(a) because I am ridiculously fond of the Scion of Musagetes stories, let's actually see what's involved in Alexis taking archery lessons from That Guy -- and perhaps what she gets to do with the training -- or

(b) because it's been quite awhile since I've played the "crossover curve ball" card, something entirely new: Obviously we never saw this onscreen, but you just know that somewhere between one movie and the next, someone from the Jurassic Park franchise's InGen had the bright idea that all those dinos would be less dangerous if they were pocket-sized. And would therefore have gone looking for Hank (Ant-Man) Pym, creator of the Pym Particle....

There is a reason I keep doing this every year, even though it takes a lot of out of me; it produces some of my best stories. :)

I kind of like both ideas! I'll have to think about it. I've been meaning to do the bit where we find out how much Castle actually knows in (a) for awhile, which might combine well with your prompt; and as for (b), I'm not so sure less dangerous would have been the plan, I got the distinct impression from the end of Jurassic World that Hoskins & Wu were planning to shrinky-dink the Indominus for nefarious reasons! But a story could definitely come out of that. :)

So I FINALLY started watching Grimm, and I'd love a Grimm/Riddick crossover! Mostly I'm thinking Riddick as some kind of a Wesen, though damned if I know what kind. That or hell, maybe Jack is or Riddick adopts a more animalistic Wesen (because after CoR and R we know he's got a thing for large pets)? I know this will be an odder crossover, but I'm just intrigued to see what you can manage for it! Let me know if you need a better/more coherant prompt. I'm only barely awake LOL

Just one problem with that: There's a reason Criminal Minds is not on my offering list. I only ever watched the show for that one Avengers/CM fic several years ago, and then only up to the end of Season 6. I don't have anything like enough time on my hands to try to dive back in or refresh myself on canon. :(
