The "Ask Me Anything" Meme
Dec. 10th, 2014 04:20 pmI noticed that December talk meme going around; but this is not a good month for me, given all the other givens. But I've also seen that others are cleverly rebranding it as the January meme! That, I think I can handle.
So! Pick a date in January. Pick a topic. On the date you choose I will post something about that topic. It can be writing-related (headcanon, faves, frustrations, etc.) or it can branch into other fandom questions, books I read, things I watch, places I've been, cats, photos, other hobbies, opinions; whatever you want. If a topic is uncomfortable for me or I just don't have anything to say for whatever reason, I may ask you to make a second choice. If you want to request more than one topic, pick a different day for each.
Jan 1: "What is your favorite climate, either in RL or in an imagined destination, such as ... one of those all-one-biome planets?" -
pronker
Jan 2: "You read a ton, with a lot of different subjects and genres. What things appeal to you most as a reader and what do you look for when starting a new author/series?" -
kerrykhat
Jan 3: "Talk about one of your favorite road trips." -
edenfalling
Jan 4: "If you could meet, have an autograph, and get a picture with any celebrity, who would it be and why?" -
maevebran
Jan 5: "[The Machine, JARVIS or Data] Vs [Skynet, Samaritan or Arnim Zola]; Who wins, why, and why did you choose the two you did?" -
ffutures
Jan 6: "You've done so many nifty Buffy crossovers (SG-1 (multiples), Avengers (ditto), Ninja Turtles, etc., etc.) -- is there any one in particular that you'd call out as either your favorite or the closest to your crossover headcanon? And on the flip side, what is it about Buffy that makes her so pairable with so many different crossover-partners?" -
graycardinal
Jan 7: "What attracts you to new fandoms?" -
edenfalling
Jan 8: "Which fandom(s) have you had the MOST fun writing?" -
xlade
Jan 9: "Why do crossovers appeal to you as much as they do? You are one of the most prolific writers of crossovers that I know, and that's awesome, but I'd be interested in why." -
beatrice_otter
Jan 10: "What's the most challenging crossover you've ever written in terms of making the canons mesh? How did you make it work? Feel free to expand to talking about other crossovers. (I love crossovers, so I always wonder about how other people make them work.)" -
therck
Jan 11: "Someone asked what attracts you to a new fandom, so I'll ask the corollary: what turns you off of getting into a fandom? For example, you see/read a work, enjoy it for what it is, but as for writing for it ... meh." -
pronker
Jan 12: "What is your Firefly headcanon for where they are two/five/ten years after Serenity?" -
jazzfic
Jan 13: "If you could live anywhere in the world for one year (money not necessarily an issue) where would you go? Why there? What would you do? What season do you think you'd thrive in. Etcetera, etcetera." -
avamclean
Jan 14: "Challenging RL issues notwithstanding, you've been amazingly prolific over the years (I'm guessing the total word count is well into the seven figures). What sort of writing routine(s) have you maintained to achieve that level of productivity?" -
graycardinal
Jan 15: "Star Trek and Star Wars - What attracts you to those verses? How do you feel about the expanded universes (novels, comics, etc.) for both of them and what do they add that's missing from the canon? What would your ideal crossover be?" -
kerrykhat
Jan 16: "I know your life hasn't been easy, and that has affected your writing. If you're willing to talk about it, I'd love to know more either how you're doing now, how you've been in the past, how your fic writing is affected by other things, anything of that nature you feel comfortable sharing." -
beatrice_otter

Jan 18:
Jan 19:
Jan 20: "What was you first online fandom you participated in and did you have fandoms from before that?" -

graycardinal

Jan. 18: What online work could you recommend with the potential of earning $1000/mo.? This may be something you'd not want to state, but I would like to ask the opinion of someone much more internet-savvy than myself.

Date: 2015-01-01 09:45 pm (UTC)I'll take the Jan 11 question, but I don't think it would be fair to you to do the Jan 18 one. I'm not, actually, internet savvy on that scale; I found a job environment I liked, pushed my specialties until I ended up doing mostly internet-related work in that job, and did it well enough to get a raise there and an invite for a few surplus hours a month doing much the same from another company (that one of our previous employees works at), but one's a non-profit and the other's a not-for-profit, and I wouldn't budge for a higher-paying job even if it was work-from-home. So I haven't exactly been looking around at online work opportunities. :)
