jedibuttercup: (yuletide)
[personal profile] jedibuttercup
I'm on day four of a twenty-day roadtrip at the moment (follow me on Twitter to catch my daily pics), so I don't have much ability to interact online - but I could hardly miss [livejournal.com profile] yuletide sign-ups, so I've stolen a few moments of hotel wi-fi to get 'er done.

This will be my eighth year participating; I love the experience of writing gifts for people, especially in such small fandoms, and the whole atmosphere of fannish glee that surrounds the challenge. And I also love waiting up to read whatever's been written for me: it adds an extra sparkle to my holiday season. So. Dear Yuletide Author! You are automatically awesome for offering any of these fandoms, and I look forward to reading whatever you gift me with!

In general, I prefer fic that feature character interaction and/or plot, rather than PWP. But for theme: romance, humor, drama, action, domestic moments, worldbuilding, crossovers, whatever you enjoy writing? I'll probably enjoy reading. I don't have too many specific no-go's; I'm pretty easy going. Just know that fic that seriously harms characters in ways not a part of canon will upset me; and incest will make me back-button without comment. I am an equal opportunity fan as far as pairings go, but if you do include a pairing, I prefer them to be fairly equal partners, and for the relationship to be a positive thing at least for them. (Fandom is, after all, my happy space.)

If you want to stalk me, this is my main journal; my fic index post is here, and you can find me on AO3 and ff.net as well. I am an extremely eclectic writer, mostly gen but with the occasional het or slash and frequent crossovers, but don't worry too much about it; I am very open to receiving almost any type of fic.

  • Fandom 1: The Outback Stars Series
    Characters: Jodenny Scott, Terry Myell

If you offered this book trilogy - thank you so much! I've never seen any fic for these books, but I found them fascinating. I loved the worldbuilding - the way the Australian mythology interacts with the usual space opera tropes - and the complicated relationships the main characters had with each other. I would love anything you could give me about Jodenny and Myell and their mismatched yet fiercely loving relationship; whether set during their first voyage together, or in their early marriage when their professional lives and personal life were at odds, or during Myell's crazy timeleaping journey, or something set after the series - anything with the pair of them interacting would be fabulous.

If you want to include Sam Osherman and/or Jungali - any version of Jungali - or any of the other characters that impact them during the books, that would be fabulous, too; include as much or as little of the Wondjina and other alien races they encounter as you like. What I'm really looking for here is the pair of them making a life together, against all odds. (So please no breaking this couple in any way that canon didn't already; that's my only limitation.)

  • Fandom 2: Falling Skies
    Characters: Tom Mason, John Pope

In the first season of Falling Skies, Tom Mason's main antagonist in the good guy camp was Captain Weaver; but in subsequent seasons they were transformed to BFF, and John Pope took over that opposing role. I find it very interesting how often Pope seems to be the voice of reason now - self-serving reason, but still a valuable voice of caution - but the sentimental drives of Tom and Dan and the rest of their clique are still portrayed as 'right' even when they fly in the face of logic. It makes me wonder what it would take for Pope to be transformed into a BFF for Tom. It seemed like they might almost go there a couple of times in Season 3, particularly when they had to collaborate on something or in that episode where they were lost in the wilderness - but then the antagonism got reinforced again. So, just give me something with them interacting in whatever degree - action or conversation, gen or more, within canon or after it or splitting off from it, you decide - where they have to appreciate something about each other.

Include other characters if you want, just have the focus on the pair of them. I don't even mind for this one whether you break the canon pairing (Tom and Anne) or leave it intact, as I've been rather dissatisfied with the way the romance plotline played out in Season 3. But I really think they could learn some valuable things from each other about long-term survival after the alien apocalypse, if they would just stop deliberately pissing each other off.

  • Fandom 3: Now You See Me (2013)
    Characters: Dylan Rhodes, Alma Dray

This is the first movie I can remember seeing for awhile where I was cheering for both sides the whole way, and was not dissatisfied by the resolution. I liked everything about the movie - except for the fact that I wanted to know more, afterward. There are plenty of fic about the Four Horsemen in this fandom, though - so give me something about Dylan and Alma. Something elaborating on what we didn't see between the scenes of the movie, or especially what might happen afterward - I'm hoping for fic of them as a couple, but you can go gen if you prefer, just show me more about these two getting to know each other.

Further notes: I enjoyed the use of magic in the movie, and what it represented to Alma. I would also love to see something more about Dylan's role as a member of the Eye and how that mixes with his FBI job, and whether there might also be more to Alma than is immediately apparent, but don't worry about that if it doesn't inspire you. You can also include secondary characters if you want - I can easily see Dylan continuing some sort of mentorship role with the Horsemen after the movie, for example - but it's absolutely not necessary; I mainly want to see Dylan and Alma 'seeing' more of each other, wherever that leads them.

  • Fandom 4: Bullet to the Head (2012)
Characters: James "Bobo" Bonomo, Lisa Bonomo

I'm actually asking for foreground-gen for this movie; I'd love to see something about the father/daughter relationship between Jimmy Bobo and Lisa. He says he didn't raise her, and her mother's out of the picture, so how did they get to know each other? What brought him to her tattoo shop the first time, for a little off-the-books medical help, and how did she react? How does she really feel about what he does for a living, and how does being the daughter of a hitman affect her own sense of identity? Do they get to a point where they're closer, after the events of the movie? Answer any of these questions, or come up with your own; I just have a lot of feels about fathers and daughters, and I want to see an exploration of that with these characters, hopefully trending in a positive direction despite the built-in angst.

Feel free to include Taylor Kwon if you like - he and Lisa seemed to hit it off well, and the whole antagonistic bromance thing he had going with Jimmy was fun, so I wouldn't mind him being a part of the tale, in whatever degree of 'ship or gen. But I want the main focus to be on Jimmy and Lisa.

  • Fandom 5: Olympus Has Fallen (2013)
    Characters: Lynn Jacobs, Ruth McMillan

I'm actually asking for foreground-gen for this movie, too. What I want to see is these two women in positions of power, the head of the Secret Service and the Secretary of Defense, both of whom were caught up in the events of the movie in painful ways, interacting with each other after it's all over. Lynn lost dozens of her people in the attack, and Ruth barely survived it, and yet both of them were pretty much sidelined by the male characters' stories going on in the movie. So bring them front and center for me. Over coffee, or in the course of their professional duties, as friends or just acquaintances bound together by extraordinary circumstance - it's up to you.

(If you've seen my fic list, you know I've written Ben Asher/Mike Banning, but for this request it doesn't particularly matter to me whether they show up in the background as just President and agent, or something extra, or not at all.)

I hope I've given you some things to be thoughtful about, rather than boxing you in. Just have fun writing whatever you're writing, and I'll love you for whatever you give me, I'm sure. Thank you again!
