When the news came from the Alpha site about a long-lost scientist reappearing, Daniel Jackson was in his office, reworking his nth application to join the Atlantis Expedition. Third time was the charm, wasn't it? Or whatever iteration he was on after hijacked spaceships, mystical bonds, a pressing war, and an inconvenient injury had repeatedly trapped him in the Milky Way Galaxy.

Atlantis' temporary relocation to US waters had seemed the perfect opportunity to try again. And thus, of course, an equally perfect opportunity for another obstacle to materialize.

'Dr. Fred Burkle' might well be worth it, though. He vividly remembered her bizarre behavior and disappearance on a science-related mission off-world; her final words to him had been, "You will do."

He still wasn't sure what she'd meant by that-- but she reached that curious, knowledge-hungry part of him that had been slumbering for years. The Ori war, the Nox withdrawal, and the self-destruction of the Asgard had left the galaxy's second-born races with only the dregs of the Ancients' long-ago failures as legacy. But the Furlings were still a mystery.

And she'd claimed to be one of them.

He sighed, smiled wryly, and tore up the paperwork. Maybe someday.

Fred/Illyria as a Furling?! Intriguing! :)

Well, since they never did explain them in canon, and the Great Alliance was tens of millions of years ago, I felt free to interpret as I pleased. =)

Yeah, I could definitely see Daniel setting Atlantis aside yet again just for the opportunity to pick Illyria's brain! I'm glad you decided to revisit this and hope you do so again some time, but with the opportunity to go a bit more in depth.

I have a companion drabble to this I plan to put up for the next challenge, but I don't have more to put on the table right now-- hopefully eventually I will, though. It's an interesting concept: Daniel as Illyria's Guide.

Glad you decided to continue this, as I said in my previous review, I think Daniel/Illyria is just a great combination. She is a former all powerful god, and he a former ascended being, a lot in common there despite Daniel doesn't remember what ascension was like. Illyria would be fascinating to someone like him, she would have the answers to loads of questions about ancient things that Daniel is interested in.


Also I think Fred's persona fits in perfectly with the SGC, if you wanted to write an AU, she would have fit in pre Illyria.

She'd probably even have fit in while being Illyria-channeling-Fred. But I found Fred-at-SGC a less compelling story to write.

Fred at SGC would have to be done carefully. Perhaps something pre Pylea, set during the early seasons of SG-1, Daniel is interested, but then she goes back to school. After she comes back she is Fred/Illyira during the later seasons of SG-1.
