Chiron shifted uneasily on his hooves as Percy led the camp's newest guests toward the Big House. Peleus snorted apprehensive sparks behind them, disturbed by the fading clamor from the magical barriers; but despite the alarm, Dawn Summers' sister had not been refused entry, a thing almost unheard of in the camp's history.

Beside him, Dionysus made a disgruntled noise. "You know what this means."

Chiron knew. He'd helped set up that particular warning system when Camp Half-Blood was constructed. Though the Titans no longer produced offspring with the frequency of Zeus' pantheon, there were yet many powerful beings in the world who did not answer to Olympus, and their descendants often proved dangerous. At least one Titanic bloodline still mingled freely with humanity, occasionally sporting cursed, clear-sighted daughters mistaught to pursue destruction of all nonhumans, evil or otherwise. The son of Ares who'd created the Watcher's Council had much to answer for.

"A Slayer and a demigod in the same family? This cannot be coincidence," he mused, watching the golden-haired woman approach.

"A demigod whose parent has not answered the Oath to claim her," Dionysus reminded him, frowning.

Chiron sighed. Perseus Jackson really did have the most improbable luck.

And that part about the Son of Ares creating the Watcher's Council? Mice!

=) Yeah, I thought that was appropriate, given the way Slayers are traditionally trained, and how fond Ares is of causing conflict.

Awesome! I really enjoyed the Percy Jackson books, but there is NO fanfic for it I've found so far that isn't just totally, totally awful.

I enjoyed the movie, but it was the fic at grabi_hands that really snared me into the fandom and prompted me to buy the other four books. igrab writes mostly slashfic-- and not always to my taste-- but the characterization details are excellent and borrow from the Greek mythology, too.

If you do find any other decent PJO fic, let me know? =)

Wait, you didn't read the first book? I bet you were really confused when Percy was just thirteen in the second book, Annabeth was blond, and every other thing in the books that didn't make it into the books. =)

I will definitely let you know if I find something good.

Oh, I did, actually; right before the movie, so I'd have some idea what was going on. But I was disappointed in it, due to the juvenility of the writing; in some respects, the movie made more sense to me. I was very glad later that I'd gone back to read the others; the storyline improved dramatically as the series progressed.

I was really, really disappointed in the movie. (I did read the entire series before watching it.) How is Luke supposed to come back for movie #2? Why in the world would Hades have hidden Nico and Bianca way back during WWII-time if the only reason Gods aren't supposed to interact with their demigod offspring is because of Poseidon and Percy, who was born in the 1990s? I mean, the movie didn't even talk about how all unclaimed and minor-child demigods get lumped into the Hermes cabin, and that's the basis for the series's over-arcing conflict for the series!

Sorry. =) Usually I'm not a book-over-movie crazy. This one just bothered me a bit.

Well, I hadn't read any of the further series details yet at the time; and I simply assumed that the movie makers had a pretty good idea that they'd never get funding to make them all, so they clipped out any extraneous mythology and background bits that they could. They also aged up the kids and ignored some of the really eyerolling obstacles that held the first book together, for example, "oh no, I can't fly because Zeus might hate it!" and "oh no, I can't use a cell phone because it'll draw monsters!" and the whole Hephaestus trap (which while being really dumb does also set up some important Ares stuff in later books). It made for better on-screen entertainment that way.

I just mentally compartmentalized it as a separate-but-parallel universe, like the HP books and movies, or Lord of the Rings; undoubtedly, were the movie-makers to continue, there would be alternate causes and reasons for everything important. Might be fun to sketch out, actually. *ponders*

It cracks me up that, "Oh, no, Zeus would get pissed if I flew!" was a reason for hard travel, but, "We're freaking twelve, no one in their right mind is going to let us go by ourselves," wasn't. =)

I was also hampered by my desire for my friend's eight-year-old, who got me into the series, getting a bit shafted by the Annabeth changes. (Annabeth was SO TOTALLY HER FAVORITE. It's neat watching the first stages of fandom in a small human, you know?)
