That was just fantastic. I hadn't thought much about Gaila, but this was a delightful look into her outlook on Jim. Was there more of her in the novelization you mentioned?

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it! It was just so interesting to me that the directors explicitly chose to include a freed Orion slave girl among the cadets, I thought she deserved a little more exploration.

There was a little bit more of her, if I remember right; that's where I got the part about her and Jim both being able to speak Orion Prime. Mostly just a little expanding on the scene where Uhura bursts in on them.

The novelization doesn't say either way, but she sure looked excited about whatever her assignment had been when she rushed past Uhura in the shuttle-boarding scene. I chose to assume she also got the best of the best. *grin*

I really liked that the moviemakers chose to include a freed Orion slave girl as one of the cadets; but I found it rather problematic that she basically only shows up to have sex with Kirk and give him access to the simulator computers (according to the novel).

So, I thought she deserved a little more attention; and then I thought about Kirk's behavior, and I thought, aha! Yes, here is a way to add more shades to their characterization. =)
