*facepalm* In case any of you were wondering where I've been all week, I've kind of. Um. Discovered the wonders of Delicious link indexing, only a couple of years behind everybody else.

I have, oh, nearly a thousand favorited pages and link files and lj memories scattered around; several years' worth of fic reading and thinking, "y'know, I should make sure I can find this again later to share". And I keep getting sucked into rereading as I click my way through to rebookmark everything. And branching out to see what else that author may have written since I last checked.

I have a feeling I'll be going back through it all again to add more tags once I'm done, too. Which I'm not nearly. 500 bookmarks so far, at least as many to go. I'll link over to it when I'm finished, in case anyone's curious.

*rubbing face* I'll try to post some actual content tomorrow-- er, later today. But if I don't. I'm still, y'know. Here. Just very, very distracted.

This sounds like 'organizing Bookmarks'? Any advantage to Delicious?

I used to just use the bookmarking function in Internet Explorer, or save the actual URL in a text file; I'm not sure what you're used to doing? Delicious has a really huge advantage over that sort of system in that it allows you to tag a bookmarked URL (like LJ tags) with as many tags as you like, provide it a description, and also see how many other people have bookmarked it.

You can search your tags, or the entire Delicious system; you can sort your URLs by one tag, or by more than one at the same time; you can search them to see how many are using a .geocities. web address, to know how many you'll have to rebookmark when those sites go down; and all sorts of other interesting tricks.

I'm not done with mine yet-- I haven't even got to the slash section of my LJ bookmarks, plus I'm going to have to go back through to add wordcount tags, I think-- but here's how I'm using it so far:

Thanks for clarifying. Usually, I use the bookmarking/favoriting thing or save the URL in a file; recently lost all my reccing notes for crack_van and so am looking into alternatives; tagging sounds great.

I spent a week just trying to put tags to all my delicious bookmarks, I still haven't gotten everything moved over. I also suffer from the rereading issue. It's amazing the things you re-find. Good luck!

Here's something you might want to hear, but at the end of the year, geocities is shutting down, so if you have any bookmarks on geocities...might want to do something about that.

Thanks. Fortunately, you can search for geocities addresses in Delicious; but that's not going to help with the ones who're paying for a webname all their own but still hosting there. *sigh* One hopes they'll be the ones enough on the ball to move their sites themselves before it all goes down.
