I love it more for what it does to Mal, than the exact wording.
Mal's faith-journey has always been one of the most important parts of his character to me. He was in a bleak place for most of the series and movie, despite the moments of humor; the end of the War had completely closed him off, spiritually. But what happened there on Haven-- I don't know, it was such a fulcrum point, it's hard for me to talk about coherently.

Yeah, I think I mostly objected to the wording. *g* Like you, I was pretty captivated by Mal's journey of faith, especially as it came to fruition in Serenity.
Wow, there's a lot of red square mileage in Oregon. Including my county; I didn't know that! Pity the blue counties also happen to be the most populous ones. And that one the most strongly blue of all. I think the next nearest is Benton county, at 69%.
I haven't done an exhausive search myself over the rest of the states, but from what I hear, this is very typical the country over: densely populated urban areas are blue, and sparsley populated areas are red. I'm sure it has much to do with the personality types that are drawn to each type of locale.
Anyway, the whole election reminds me - and not necessarily in a good way - of a fairly recent Orson Scott Card book called "Empire." Have you read it? It's a little different from his sci-fi / fantasy norm as it is set is very near future US and deals with a only partially unrealistic civil war. Well worth it - as, of course, is true with nearly everything he writes. :)
