Comment on this post. I will choose seven userpics from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are using them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so others can play along.

[livejournal.com profile] beatrice_otter picked these seven:

By [livejournal.com profile] lisaroquin. She made it for me two years ago, the first time I participated in the [livejournal.com profile] twistedshorts August fic-a-day-a-thon, to commemorate my story Diverted Destiny, a B:tVS/RotJ crossover. I've kept the icon because I loved the story, and because it's kind of a reminder to me that you really can cross anything believably, if you try hard enough.

I mostly use it for my mod posts over at [livejournal.com profile] tthdrabbles.

By [livejournal.com profile] samjack_girl. This was one of my original icons, back when I had a free account and all of my crossovers were either Buffy- or Stargate-centric. It represents to me the wondrous possibilities-- the stretching of human spirit and imagination-- embodied by the best of the science fiction genre. Not that the actual show ever hit that mark most of the time. But there's enough fertile ground there, enough raw building blocks of potential, for fans to play with forever.

I mostly use it for my mod posts over at [livejournal.com profile] stargate_xing.

By [livejournal.com profile] thesuthernangel. Ah, River. I think the image is from the Australian poster for the Serenity movie, with the name of the last episode of Firefly written over River's shoulder. I would tell you why I love her, and all the other Firefly characters, but I'm having trouble coming up with something coherent-- so hopefully my Firefly fic, especially In Other's Eyes, says it for me.

This icon captures her as a creature of beauty, grace, and deadliness-- limned in light-- a combination I'm very fond of in my action heroes. I wish Joss had had a chance to tell us what came next for her.

By [livejournal.com profile] arctic_fox. This is Fitzwilliam Darcy, hero of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, as played by Colin Firth in the five-hour 1995 adaption of the novel. My aunt gave me the book when I was seven years old, and I've loved him ever since; he's a socially awkward person with a genuinely good heart, who makes painful mistakes but comes through in the end and gets his happily ever after. He's actually a better access character for me in the book than Elizabeth, who's the heroine and primary POV!

This icon captures him in all his proper, well-dressed, handsome, observer-not-participant glory. I love the use of colors and textures in it, and the loopy script used for his name.

By [livejournal.com profile] marshmellin. Because Dr. Julian Subatoi Bashir, CMO of Deep Space Nine, is made of win.

I love the expression on his face here, and the set of his arms. It represents triumph, and celebration of skill. It also makes me picture Miles just off camera, making a disgusted face at him, and that always makes me smile; I adored their friendship. This is my good-day, you'll-never-guess-what-I-just-did icon.

By [livejournal.com profile] mata090680. For those bad days when it seems like yes, the universe-- a tribe of cannibals, the Grim Reaper, whatever Fate of Doom currently hangs overhead-- really is out to get you. For when the creditors come calling, and the shit hits the fan, and the light at the end of the tunnel turns out to be the headlamp of a train coming your way.

The expression on Jack's face, the way he's escaping out of the image but pops out in color against the background, the way the words are slightly faded like Jack is gasping them out as he runs-- ♥ Jack.

By [livejournal.com profile] fondued_jicama. Because "The Fifth Element" is my second-most-watched-in-theater movie ever, after Serenity (five times, versus nine). And because it's a gorgeous icon. I use it more on IM than I do on LJ, but I love the use of color, the brilliant focal point of the Diva in the foreground framed by the arch of window, the sweep of contrasting cloud, and the deeper blue of the sky in the distance.

Anyone else want to play?
