Make a list of all the characters in your icons. (Although you may have more than one icon of a single character, they only go on the list once.) Alphabetize it. Take the first two people on the list; that's your first pairing. Second two people; second pairing. etc.

Wow, when I did it, I got Willow and Xander together too. I guess this shows that they are meant to be together after all. :)

I think the wrongest pairing I ended up on my list was Vincent and Walt from Lost. Yes, the DOG and his owner. :)

Yeah, I see what you mean about paying someone to write plausibly. It's interesting how many of your icons I don't recognize, however.

This wouldn't work for me, having only six icons, half of which have more than one person.
