FIC YEAR IN REVIEW - 2024

Well, I did sign up for
getyourwordsout again last year, and I did complete three Triple Crown stories (if not all three challenges). But motivation was lacking. It's been awhile now since I had a really prolific year. Here's crossing my fingers for 2025.
I only wrote one crossover, and only one not really for an exchange; two were slash, three were gen, five were poly, six were het, and the plots included a lot of canon divergences, fix-its, road trips, and other tropey indulgences. I did do a couple of new things, though: a tiny attempt at an in-universe document, and a fic with sibling incest. Feels a bit weird to still have frontiers yet to cross, what, twenty-three years after I first started posting fic? I guess I am a Fandom Old these days! *cracking knuckles*
2024 Fanfiction Stats
(As a reminder, I always count Yuletide stories with the year following, in which the reveals happen; so 2024's count includes the Yule 2023 stories and not the Yule 2024 ones.)
Number of works posted: 16
Total words posted: 73,200
(For perspective: last year's numbers were 27 and 97,000. In 2011, my best year? 137 and 272,200.)
Most popular stories of 2024:
I With Thee Have Fixed My Lot - Ready or Not (2019), Daniel/Grace
The Completion of Their Happiness - Mansfield Park, Henry/Fanny
Least popular stories of 2024:
and all manner of thing shall be well - The Last Witch Hunter (2015), Chloe/Kaulder
Memento Mori - Mission Impossible series, Brandt/Ethan/Ilsa
For once, there's no FFFX story in the top two; though one is still a romantic-focused longfic in a genre fandom, and the other's a popular non-canon pairing for a historical romance book. No surprises there. I only had one story under 100 hits this year, though, which was a surprise, though not the fact that it was for the movie Vin Diesel based on his Dungeons & Dragons character. :) And the other lowest story was an M/M/F poly fic taking Mi:7 into account, and I have a feeling a lot of fans are waiting for Mi:8 to read fix-its.
