Dear 2014 Yuletide Writer ....

This will be my ninth year participating; I love the experience of writing gifts for people, especially in small fandoms, and the whole atmosphere of fannish glee that surrounds the challenge. And I also love waiting up to read whatever's been written for me: it adds an extra sparkle to my holiday season. So. Dear Yuletide Author! You are automatically awesome for offering any of these fandoms, and I look forward to reading whatever you gift me with!

In general, I prefer something mainly focused on character interaction and/or plot, rather than PWP. But for theme: romance, humor, scifi, action, domestic moments, worldbuilding, whatever you enjoy writing? I'll probably enjoy reading. I like people with layers, and watching them engage intelligently with each other is always a good time for me, whatever they're up to. Though I do have a few no-go's, which I'd prefer you avoid: incest, deliberate betrayal of trust between partners, character humiliation, and non-consensual sex. Otherwise angst is OK, as long as it's resolved somehow (I prefer not to close a story feeling depressed).

I am an extremely eclectic writer, mostly gen but with the occasional het or slash and frequent crossovers, but don't worry about it; celebrate our mutual small fandom in whatever way pleases you, and it'll probably please me.

• Fandom 1: The Outback Stars Series
  Characters: Jodenny Scott, Terry Myell
  
  If you offered this book trilogy - thank you so much! I've never seen any fic for these books, but I found them fascinating. I loved the unique worldbuilding and the complicated relationships the main characters had with each other. I would love anything you could give me about Jodenny and Myell and their mismatched yet fiercely loving relationship; whether set during their first voyage together, or in their early marriage when their professional lives and personal life were at odds, or during Myell's crazy timeleaping journey, or something set after the series - anything with the pair of them interacting would be fabulous.
  
  If you want to include Sam Osherman and/or Jungali - any version of Jungali - or any of the other characters that impact them during the books, that would be fabulous, too; include as much or as little of the Wondjina and other alien races they encounter as you like. What I'm really looking for here is the pair of them making a life together, against all odds. (So please no breaking this couple in any way canon didn't already; that's all I ask.)



• Fandom 2: The Fast and the Furious (2001)
  Characters: Brian O'Conner, Letty Ortiz
  
  I am fairly enthusiastic about this very shiny movie series. The pretty people, the pretty cars, the chosen family themes, the mad skillz, the ridiculous lengths the characters all go to for each other, all of it. One of the areas I find relatively unexplored in the fandom, though, is the interaction between Brian and Letty; please give me something with these two front and center.
  
  I love Letty's strength, and the fact that she's more than just Dom's girl; and the fact that Brian is competent at his job, but ultimately puts his personal loyalties first. So how did they end up working together in FF4, anyway? Did she find him first, or vice versa? What were those negotiations like? Or how do they relate to each other after the events of FF6? Or if you offered this just for the first movie (as I belatedly notice the date on the fandom tag), something with them interacting between scenes? Or AU it if that's what excites you! Antagonistic but respecting-each-other gen would be great; het would be awesome too; or OT3-ing it up with either of the Torettos would also be pretty hot, provided the focus is still on the two of them.



• Fandom 3: Bullet to the Head (2012)
  Characters: James "Bobo" Bonomo, Lisa Bonomo
  
  I'd love to see something about the father/daughter relationship between Jimmy Bobo and Lisa. He says he didn't raise her, and her mother's out of the picture, so how did they get to know each other? What brought him to her tattoo shop the first time, for a little off-the-books medical help, and how did she react? How does she really feel about what he does for a living, and how does being the daughter of a hitman affect her own sense of identity? Do they get to a point where they're closer, after the events of the movie? Answer any of these questions, or come up with your own; I just have a lot of feels about fathers and daughters, and I want to see an exploration of that with these characters.
  
  Feel free to include Taylor Kwon if you like - he and Lisa seemed to hit it off well, and the whole antagonistic bromance thing he had going with Jimmy was also fun, so I wouldn't mind him being a part of the tale in whatever degree of 'ship or gen. But I'd prefer the main focus to be on Jimmy and Lisa.



• Fandom 4: Olympus Has Fallen (2013)
  Characters: Lynn Jacobs, Ruth McMillan
  
  I'd like to see these two women in positions of power, the head of the Secret Service and the Secretary of Defense, both of whom were caught up in the events of the movie in painful ways, interacting with each other after it's all over. Lynn lost dozens of her people in the attack, and Ruth barely survived it, and yet both of them were pretty much sidelined by the male characters' stories going on in the movie. So bring them front and center for me. Over coffee, or in the course of their professional duties, as friends or more or just acquaintances bound together by extraordinary circumstance - it's up to you.
  
  (If you've seen my fic list, you know I've written Ben Asher/Mike Banning, but for this request it doesn't particularly matter to me whether they show up in the background as just President and agent, or something extra, or not at all. Trumbull is also awesome, if you want him to show up!)



• Fandom 5: Guardians of the Galaxy (Movies)
  Characters: Peter Quill, Yondu Udonta
  
  I love every one of the Guardians characters; but what I really walked out of the movie wanting was more fic about Peter and his (in my preferred vision, surprisingly well-adjusted, more bark-than-bite as long as you follow the rules) childhood with the Ravagers. You don't have to make Yondu into a dad-figure, though that's also enjoyable; and you can include as many of the other Ravagers as you like, in whatever role of nasty to nice. I just want to see young!Peter shenanigans as he adjusts successfully to life off Earth.
  
  Show why Yondu decided to keep Peter. Or Peter learning the skills to be a successful interstellar thief from one or more of the crew. Or the early stages of his figuring out how to flirt (pelvic sorcery!) since I can't imagine he picked it up on Yondu's ship. (Or did he? Any flavor of 'ship is fine here, as long as all parties are of age and consenting.) Or, if you prefer to go AU with it: how might things have gone differently if the Ravagers had run across any of the other Guardians, or other characters in the tag list, while Peter was a kid. Or if young!Peter just does not inspire you: give me the next time Peter's crew and the Ravagers work together, after the movie. Or what might've happened if Peter hadn't gone off on his own to reach the Orb before Yondu. Just have fun!

I hope I've given you some things to be thoughtful about, rather than boxing you in. Just have fun writing whatever you're writing, and I'll love you for whatever you give me, I'm sure. Thank you again!

I hope you receive a good, juicy fic! I thought of seeing GOTG, but sadly, the movie is now out of town :(

According to Amazon, it drops on December 9 here in the States, so not too long of a wait. Definitely worth seeing; I'd rate it at about the same level of fun as the Avengers. :)
