30 Day Photo Meme: Day 26

I went with old as in "millions of years" with this one. The first's my favorite, but I was awestruck by the others, too. This world has so many amazing things in it.

Day 26 - a photo of something old


Sue the T-Rex! How could I go through Harry Dresden's city and not pay her a visit? (July, 2009)


Limestone formations in the big room in Carlsbad Caverns. (October, 2013)


The San Rafael Reef: I'd never heard of it before we drove through it, but when they talk about 'the bones of the earth', this 30-mile long formation of tilted sandstone layers will be what I always think of now. (October, 2013)

These are humbling - so lost in the mists of time, just their 'bones', as you say, to intimate what they looked like.

Carlsbad is timeless, too; I was there in '87 and remember just walking down that slope ...

Sue! That is a great shot of your brother with her. The other two shots are beautiful as well, it's just that I still have to squee a bit at the mere thought of that Crowning Moment of Awesome with Sue. :)

I was there once when I was about ten years old; I think it was the winter of '88. My memories of it were very vague, though; I was kind of slapped in the face with the amazing of it when maevebran stopped there last year, twenty-five years later.

She was the main reason we stopped in Chicago that trip; well, her and the Hard Rock Café. Worth it. :)

Yeah. I first read the Dresden Files books when Proven Guilty came out, all in a shot; so Dead Beat was still very fresh in my mind a couple years later when we went on the trip. That was my one insist on the Chicago arm of the roadtrip; my brother wanted the Hard Rock, and a couple of geocaches there, but didn't mind stopping to see Sue at all, since his military ID card got him in for free. :)

Sue would be at the top of my Must See list, too. I remember reading articles on her and watching things on TV after she was first discovered and kept track of all of the legal wrangling. As soon as Butcher wrote that the older a body was, the more power it had, I just knew (okay, hoped) that Harry was going to reanimate Sue when he was in the Field Museum and I squeed out loud. Yeah, I get a lot of funny looks when I read in public...

If you don't get funny looks occasionally when reading in public, then you're not a very invested reader, IMHO. :)

Sarah still teases me when we happen to be reading in the same vicinity and I finish a book, because - and it's really not a conscious thing, I only notice I'm doing it because she laughs - if it's a good book, I always close it and kiss the back cover. That's how she knows when I didn't enjoy a book. :)
