30 Day Photo Meme: Day 08

I kept picking, then discarding, then selecting, then changing my mind on this one. Really, what qualifies as "artistic"? It's not like I often go to places where classical forms of art are displayed. :)

Day 08 - a photo of something artistic


When roadtripping with maevebran, I tend to visit famous locations (and restaurants); but with my brother, I end up hunting down the quirkier sort of landmarks, such as this scaled-down replica of Stonehenge, erected in a random Kentucky homeowner's front yard. (July 1, 2009)

I don't even know what this one is called; bro and I found this bicyclist artwork in a random California neighborhood, out geocaching near his Air Force reserve base. (March 13, 2011)


And: the Unipiper. What? He totally counts! One of Portland's more unique performance artists. (January 25, 2014)

I love the quirky roadside attractions! I used to hit those with my dad when I was younger. We'd go on day trips during the summer, I was usually the only kid that wanted to go since I was the youngest, and we'd find the randomest shit around our state. :) Thanks for reminding me of that.

You're welcome. Dad loved those roadside attractions, too; one that he never got around to taking us to was the Oregon Vortex. I'm going to have to put it on the schedule sometime this year. :)

We were pretty close in age and so played together a lot as kids, but we weren't really friends until he was 12 or so and discovered that books were fun, and abruptly we had things to talk about, too. We've got along like a house on fire ever since. And luckily, he married a woman who embraced me as a sister from the start. :)

I didn't know my state had a stonehenge!! Learn something new every day!

My first thought on the Unipiper was that he looked like Gandalf. :)

His definite intention was to look like Gandalf; he was playing Lord of the Rings soundtrack music on those bagpipes. :) Other times, he runs around wearing half a Darth Vader outfit (including the helmet and chest piece; but he still wears a kilt) and playing the Imperial March. He's shown up both years I went to ComicCon in town.

I'd never have known about the Stonehenge either if not for my brother; we were roadtripping back to Oregon from Pensacola where his base was and he went to one of those greatest hits of geocaching sites and said, "heyyy, this we've got to see". :)
