Finding photos of historical buildings that I was behind the camera for was the challenge here; many of the best ones I've saved have me in the picture. :)

Day 04 - a photo of a historical building


Taken June 2009, on a roadtrip with my brother, at the Chapel of the Cross in Madison, MS (Built in the 1850's)


Shot on the ferry ride to Azkaban Alcatraz with maevebran in September 2012.


And one most people have probably never heard of: tiny little Stokes Castle, just outside of Austin, Nevada, off "America's loneliest highway". Bluest sky I've ever seen! Photographed October 2013.

Ooh, yeah, that sky in the last picture really is Maxfield Parrish Blue! All of these are great, but I love that old church the best, it looks like something you'd find somewhere in England.

My brother planned our 2009 trip as a sort of "greatest hits of geocaching, oh yeah, and all the Hard Rocks we can reach" sprint cross-country, and he found a lot of buildings in little out of the way nooks and crannies that you'd never expect. I have a lot more photos taken at that particular stop, but alas, I'm in most of them, so they're not suitable for this meme. :)

The thought of Alcatraz gives me shudders. And the little castle looks very imposing given its size!

I had to go see the place at least once in my life, since we were already going to be in the city. :) It was surprisingly non-spooky though, at least the public parts, probably because of how long it's been a tourist attraction.

We'd never have spotted the castle at all if we hadn't stopped at a gas station on one of the little microscopic towns on Highway 50 and said, "say, this is a long day of not much but beautiful scenery, anything around here of interest?" and he said, "hey, actually, see that road right behind the station, all gravelly? Go up that about a mile. We have an honest-to-god castle out here." Quite the road trip gem. :)
