24 Days of Fic: Prompt Me! (Yes, You!)

Okay. So
pprfaith did this first, then
polgara_5 and
azraelz_angel and
avamclean. But I was totally okay with resisting the urge to follow until I started reading their prompts....
*ahem* Anyway. Two extra limiters on this, since I've got other fic deadlines looming all around: (a) these are going to all end up drabble length, or maybe up to 500 words, so keep that in mind as you prompt; and (b) I'm limiting the fandom list to ten I've written either lots of or very recently.
Rules:
And that's it! Prompt away: the 24 Days of Ficcish Christmas will be here before you know it!

Wishlist 2010
Rules:
- I accept the first twenty-four prompts I am given, regardless of who you are or if I know you. (LIST COMPLETE!)
- You give me characters/pairing, a fandom and a prompt.
If I don't know the fandom you're requesting, your prompt doesn't count. If you want to check up on my fandoms, check out my body of work here.
Choose from the following: Buffy/Angel-verse; Stargate SG-1; Firefly/Serenity; Eureka; Star Trek XI; Leverage; The Mummy/Mummy Returns; The Dresden Files; The Sorcerer's Apprentice; and Avatar: the Last Airbender.- Your prompts can be for a crossover or not. Either is fine. It can be a quote, an idea, a specific situation, but the more you give me, the more I have to work with. Throwing
Faith/DeanBuffy/Daniel, whatever at me is going to get you whatever. - If you don't have an lj account, leave an anonymous comment, but make sure to sign it with a name (possibly your TtH name, if you're coming from that end.) If you do not sign with a name I will not use your prompt.
- I answer the prompts in the order I like best and post them here and on TtH, one a day, starting 1st, Dec 2010.
And that's it! Prompt away: the 24 Days of Ficcish Christmas will be here before you know it!

(And I still say it's the best Lt. Col. title I've seen for him, yet. *grin*)

ETA: I happen to agree, I've always thought of Paul Davis as "Stormcrow" and it really does suit the promotion as well.

Date: 2011-01-06 07:16 pm (UTC)The thing with Faith and Vala... I didn't actually like Vala all that much at first, what with all her deliberate false fronts, except to think here was finally another fiery woman who might challenge Daniel, until sometime around the episode when she had the amnesia, and then later, ack, that scene in "Unending" that I hate.hate.hate but which really did a lot of characterization illumination for both characters involved. Not happily, but in ways that make sense. Faith's still a lot more resilient than that. Which, I guess, is why I never can pair her with Daniel, but I have no problem pairing him with Buffy-- Buffy's a lot more scarred by her past than Faith is, to me.

Date: 2011-01-06 11:41 pm (UTC)As for Vala, I agree with you all the way around. I also agree that Buffy has a lot of scars and that Faith is a lot more resilient than either of the two. However, Faith most assuredly has more than her fare share of scars and Issues (about as many as National Geographic, when it comes down to it), but she puts up a much better front and has learned to channel all of her angst and emotional baggage into the fight.
Faith's emotional scars are shown to best effect at the end of the season four episode "Who Are You?" Between the way she reacts to Riley's tenderness and the way she fights 'herself' (Buffy in her body) really gives away exactly how truly emotionally damaged Faith is. She's had help from Angel, who was really the only person who was ever truly there for her and never gave up on her, as well as whatever psychotherapy she would have received during her 3 year stay in prison and a lot of time to implement what she has learned. But that is about it. Faith is more resilient because she has had to be. She didn't have the Scoobies or a good watcher, after her first one was killed in front of her, nor did she have a loving family or any kind of love interest. In all, the only real support structure she's ever had for any length of time is her own inner strength. Is she strong and resilient? Absolutely! But she's also suffered every bit as much emotional trauma as Buffy has, but without Buffy's support structure.
Yeah, you can pretty much tell I think Faith has gotten a raw deal from the get go. :-p
All of that ranting said, I really did like the way you wrote Faith here. You showed her intelligence and the humor that lurks behind the Bad Girl attitude.
If you ever do get bored and want a challenge, try pairing Faith with Dr. J. or, better yet, Teal'c. They've all gone through their own hell and the two gentlemen are both wise enough to look beyond Faith's attitude and projected persona to see the damaged psyche beneath. Well, I should say pre season 7 Daniel...he seems to have lost all empathy after he descended and became Jack 2.5 (Jack's clone is 2.0).
ETA: I almost forgot! Yes please to more of your Paul in the Firefly 'verse! I love that story! Please pardon the exclamation point abuse here, but I do love that story!

Date: 2011-01-07 12:30 am (UTC)Which, again, is why I do pair Buffy with late-season Daniel... after his return to death he lost most of his resilience, too. And talking it all out like this makes it sound weird that I'm so fixated on writing them both; I guess I see them more in need of a caring fictive touch. =)
Faith and Teal'c, now. *thinky* That could be interesting indeed...

Date: 2011-01-07 07:15 am (UTC)I can definitely see where you're coming from there and you're right, it really does make sense for Daniel to lose some of that shiny, optimistic empathy after all he's been through and his descent makes sense as the proverbial last straw. And as much as I came to dislike later seasons Daniel, I do love the stories you write pairing him with Buffy. I think I've literally begged for more of several, if not all, of them!
Oooh! Coolness! Hopefully the idea of Faith and Teal'c will continue to percolate in your brain for a while until you get a break in all of your other writing endeavors. You could most definitely do the two of them justice. *happy grin*
By the way, any time you want to raise money for a favorite charity, I'll be happy to raid my camera fund to bid on a story! Just let me know a bit ahead of time so I can juggle the budget and where to bid and I'd so do my best to place the winning bid!
ETA: Pardon, I don't mean to be a pain by continuing to reply, I just really enjoy discussing fandom with you. Pity you and

Date: 2011-01-09 12:15 am (UTC)I haven't put my name into any of those recently mostly because of all the old request lists I still haven't finished; I feel guilty. But it's my goal to clear all of those by my birthday. Then we'll see.

I don't mind! It's not a pain; they're interesting conversations.
