The Sequel Meme
Feb. 11th, 2009 03:14 pmThere's still one pairing left unguessed from the OTP meme! A hint: it's an older book fandom.
In the meantime, another meme I spotted weeks ago at
jinxed_wood's journal:
Comment with a story I've written, and I'll tell you about its unwritten sequel.
My current fic are-- well, in several places, but best organized for perusal at my website, here. Anything's up for question except for my few massive WIPs; you know which ones those are.

Date: 2009-02-12 06:57 pm (UTC)So-- the next story in this sequence would probably cover Greg in-processing to the Stargate program; glimpses of the mountain and the trip over on the Daedalus (or the Gate Bridge); his first impressions of the staff; getting assigned a team (probably Lorne's) with supplementary duties in the medical area; and finish up, probably, with his embarkation on his first real mission.
Later stories in the sequence would tangle him up in the events of the end of season 3 of SGA, and eventually a return to Earth a year or so later complete with his changed impressions of that work, and his friends' impressions of how he's grown.
I have ideas for this one, it just keeps getting pushed back in the queue-- and I don't have DVDs of either CSI or Atlantis to check with, which makes researching for it a chore.

Date: 2009-02-12 07:03 pm (UTC)The immediate next story in the sequence would cover meeting the family, on both sides, bracketed by exposing more of their secrets to each other.
My chief goal would be to keep their storyline going in a positive, healing direction for both of them, so while angsty moments would definitely crop up, I'd aim for the story as a whole to invoke impressions of sunshine and joy.
I love writing Buffy as a maturing character in general (as opposed to the backwards evolution currently showcased in the Season 8 comics) and Rick seems like a perfect partner for her to explore that with.

Date: 2009-02-12 07:11 pm (UTC)The immediate next entry in this sequence would probably about the same length, and center around a conversation between D.G. and her sister, though since it would definitely be the same universe there will be Cains hovering around the edges of it.
If I had a chance to expand it the way I would really want to, though, further chapters would introduce a larger plotline related to how Dorothy became Queen in the first place, and who the Witch was during Dorothy's time, how she ended up in that cave, and why the magic drained out of the O.Z. over the years (compared to the "legends", aka Baum's books), and the route of discovery for D.G. & company toward restoring some of what had been lost.
It would be primarily a plotty story, but with romance and reconciliation continuing to happen around the edges-- I have an idea for Zero's "real story" that might work into it as well.

Date: 2009-02-12 07:39 pm (UTC)I was picturing a post-Nemesis setting when I wrote it (though I didn't verify the timeline with Riker's status in the ENT episode I referenced, oops). Any sequel would probably be another interlude with them several years more down the line, from Q's point of view. Foreground another light conversation about-- something or other; that's just scene-setting, not the important part-- over Q's thoughts about Picard's mortality, obstacles past and future, his plans, etc. Overall mood would resolve into something serious-but-positive.
(I have a tendency to get think-y when I do pairing fic, rather than porn-y, you may have noticed).
Capturing the Q POV would be the hardest part, I think; covering both the good-intentions part of him, and that ruthless really alien nearly-omniscient side that tends to piss Picard off but is nonetheless an essential piece of his makeup.
