Oh, man, what a question... Um. Technically speaking, the EU has been seriously compromised by various prequel events, but I still hold to it as a reasonable version of the future of the SW-verse.

And going sheerly on my reaction to the Leia-scene, I'd vote "yea" on including paralleling moments. I don't know that you have to, but it really seemed to work--because we know where Luke *should* be in his home universe, and the differences (divergences, *g*) will be very interesting to see.
