jedibuttercup: (narnia)

Tells a story, or illustrates a story? I went with both interpretations here: the first two come with stories from my own life, and the third powerfully invokes a particular piece of literature to me.

Day 27 - a photo (or photos) that tells a story

The first place I lived after college that wasn't home was the unfinished attic of [livejournal.com profile] maevebran's house, since she lived local to my new job. This was my mom, partway through fixing the place to livable condition. *grin* (August, 2000)

My usual powers of roadtrip-fu seem to burn out when my brother's behind the wheel. This example is when Sis-in-law was just getting to know him; on one day of our visit, we started out on a daytrip to New Orleans ... (July, 2008)

Narnia. Just-- the lamppost, and the woods, and, and. [Pic from our stop in Ashland last year]. (October, 2013)

I did read "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" some years ago (okay, decades) and I'm not at all a Narnia fan, but "Narnia" is the first thing that popped into my head when I looked at that last picture.

ETA: This is definitely a picture you should submit to a place like iStock Photo (http://www.istockphoto.com). I've got a few files on there and I've had a total of 123 downloads of my photos, for earnings of $94 ($25 of which I spent buying stock photos myself for use in icons). They use a standard stock photography agreement, but they also have different programs (http://www.istockphoto.com/help/licenses) as well for more earnings, if you don't mind your photos being used in things like calendars, advertisements and such.

As I recall, iPhones have 8 megapixel cameras with pretty good quality, don't they? All of the shots I've had accepted to iStock were shot with my 8mp Olympus C8080. In fact, my second most popular photo on iStock is the one I used for this icon. The lighting in your photo of the lamp post is pretty much perfect, as is the composition, and unless it's noisy at 100%, I'd bet you your next ticket to Portland CC against a coffee drink the next time we meet at a fan event that this lamp post photo would be accepted.

As for the competition thing, I can definitely see why you wouldn't want to do that. That said, I doubt your brother would mind it if you submitted your fun shots that would qualify and this one definitely would. And the idea that someone is willing to pay you for your photography is a real boost to the self esteem, believe me!
