Hee! I love that you were already considering the Asgard/Furling issue and the Children of Aulë! I also love the idea of the Nox being descendants of Ents! Not to overly abuse the exclamation point, but this excites me to no end.

Also, in regards to the navigation issue, I've got a story recommendation for you. It's Marnie's "Magnetic Force" (http://henneth-annun.net/stories/chapter.cfm?stid=2056), which may give you a few ideas about handling Valinor. Though the story is very well written and an incredible read, I have to warn you that the lingering feeling after reading this story is rather like that left after reading Tolkien's "Smith of Wooton Major": a sense of melancholy loss.
