Really, at that point in time both characters are grown and have so much experience and have gone through so much that really I always thought Wes and Buffy would either be best friend/support buddys/'You are the only one who understands me'/confidents or they'ed hook up.

I do like Wes/Illyria but there are some major major issues that sometimes I mostly go for mentoring/sibling/glorified!babysitter Wes than romantic.

Wes and Buffy though, I think they'd last together.
