Life Update

So, those of you who are used to expecting a flood of twistedshorts Buffy crossovers out of me in August may have noticed I've been suspiciously absent.

Two reasons for that: I was sick with a bad summer cold I caught from my niece at the beginning of the month; and I'm currently glued to the Rio Olympics. I don't think I'm going to try to get involved, at this point, beyond working on some of my wishlist_fic entries still unfinished from last December. Kind of a relief, actually. I've been doing it for how many years now? And that's a lot of pressure to add to the rest of my schedule.

I'm almost to the end of my het_bigbang Little Bang; it's another Ichabod/Abbie, this one an AU of "Novus Ordo Seclorum/Incident At Stone Manor" aka Abbie Lost in Ziggurat Land, from the middle of Sleepy Hollow Season 3. After I did the AU of the S3 finale for not_primetime, I got a lot of ideas about other times Ichabod might have stepped up rather than looking on in dismay, and, well. I'm 16,000+ words into this one.

I signed up for all three of the big bangs I've worked on this year pretty early; I'm surprised and pleased to have succeeded at all three. Together, they'll add up to more than 133,000 words, enough that I've already surpassed my word count from last year, and finally crossed the two million word mark at AO3! But backagainharry and wishlist_fic will definitely be my focus for the rest of the year.

In other news, I went ziplining this year with my mom on what would have been my dad's 65th birthday. We had a blast. Pictures later maybe? On my way over to her house now to do some digging so she can move some trees out of pots in her yard ....

Glad to hear that the cold is apparently cleared up. And the Olympics... Good lord, I'm glad I'm not streaming the games, it was bad enough seeing a still picture of that poor French gymnast when I was reading news online. I hope the poor guy makes a complete recovery, but his days as an Olympian are probably over before they really even started. What a heartbreak.

You really are doing spectacularly in the writing department this year! I'm glad you're writing more fixit stories for Sleepy Hollow, I really loved the characters but the scriptwriters truly screwed the pooch. I've yet to read your two long Falling Skies stories. I desperately need to get my eyes checked and get new glasses, so I've been putting off reading anything particularly long because I tend to lose all track of time when I fall into a well written story and I know that will happen.

Zip lining! Did you give a Parker-like yell of glee? I can never manage to go zip lining without yelling and hooting like a sugared up toddler. I'm glad to hear that you and your Mom had so much fun and I hope you do share pictures, I'd love to see them.

You might want to pick up some epsom salts, a hot soak will do will do wonders for the abused muscles. :) Digging uses entirely different muscles from other forms of exercise.

Haven't had time to post the images yet, but I will soon; I've got them all saved on my computer now! I did indeed holler with glee; it was a lot of fun. And we did it at Tree to Tree Adventure Park near Forest Grove; so we tried out their aerial obstacle course, too. Mom actually followed me on all of them except the very hardest one; we both gave the Black course a miss. :)

One thing tape delays are good for; I know what to brace for in the primetime coverage. But I've watched parts of every Olympics since Seoul when I was ten years old, and can name every city they've been sited at since without looking it up; at this point, I can't resist.

You were right about the abused muscles, too. If it had been just the digging I might've been okay, since some other friends of Mom's showed up to help, too ... but the unexpected hours of cutting and dragging tree limbs afterward really did me in. Ugh! Still very stiff and sore from that.

Read the stories in your own time - I'm really curious what you think, but I know it's a lot of story to get through. :)

LOL! You're as big a lunatic as I am, or at least as I used to be. :) I always loved doing that sort of thing, but between being in bad shape in general and taking a proton pump inhibitor (stomach med) that also tends to inhibit absorption of calcium, I'd probably break something. :-/

The Olympics are one of the few sporting events that I bother to look for clips of these days. The equestrian events and gymnastics are the things that I watch the most and though live coverage always follows gymnastics, they just don't bother with most of the equestrian events (though I don't watch the cross country event, too many horses get injured on those damned solid obstacles and downhill jumps).

Hello! It's been good to see you back, by the way; I tend to lurk a lot as well, but I saw that you'd started posting again. :)

(I was reminded of the early heyday of the new Star Trek fandom recently as well; my fic muse for that pretty much burned up and died when Into Darkness came out, but I'm starting to feel inspired again by Beyond. We'll see.)

It's kind of a stupendous wordcount, isn't it? I boggle at it sometimes, and then remember, oh yeah, I've been writing in fandom since March 2002! And while I write because I want to-- I share because I figure if I make at least one other person than me smile, it's a win. :)

I've signed up for two bigbangs so far this year and I've already failed at one of them. Though to be fair my hetbigbang was long shot since my muse has been surprisingly gen as of late.

I've failed more bigbangs over the years than I've finished, but it's such a fantastic feeling when you do succeed. :) Good luck with the one you're still working on!

My 'het bigbang' is, um, well let's just say the furthest they get is a few steamy kisses? But that's par for the course with me and any romance fic; I just figured the 'straightening their shit out and becoming a couple' part qualified for the Het tag. The majority of my output is still gen too, the shippy/slashy stuff just gets the most attention. *shrug*
