So, my brother has lent me Season 1 of Chuck. It's... um? Fun? But painful?

I got through episode one in one piece, but the dinner scene in episode two nearly killed me, nevermind the helicopter, and I'm having to watch the art auction in episode three in fits and starts a few seconds at a time. I like the characters! The plots are geek fantasy! The dialogue is snappy! But suspension of disbelief, uh, what suspension? And my embarrassment squick keeps redlining, ugh. I'm not sure how far I'll make it. At some point I'll have to give up, read a plot summary, and dive on into fandom.

Anyway. In other news, I am still up for auction at help_japan. I have two lovely bids so far, for my offer to write 1,500 words of fic; any one else care to join in? =)

Chuck gets easier to watch the further you get...

He does gain some level of competence, and instead of killing Walker and Bartowski, Casey takes them along for pancakes. Until Chuck blows up his *spoiler*. He's really not a happy camper then.

I think the show would be better if they'd just get rid of Jeff and Lester completely, but that's just me. ;)

Yeah, it's really really cheesy. And I cringe every time I watch the first episode because the "Super Spy" looks like someone's home movie of a 4-year-old trying to act like an action movie hero. But, as brendanm720 says, it does get better. Especially once they get into more of the "stunt casting", which I often roll my eyes at in other shows, but is just PERFECT in this one. It really is a show for geeks written BY geeks. :)

I'm *still* waiting for Casey to say "I'll be in my bunk", though. ;)

Believe me, I would dearly love to bid on you in the Help Japan auction, but I'm afraid my discretionary spending money is completely tied up. Between heading down to see Kane this weekend and Norwescon in April, I'm already pushing the limits of my budget. *sigh* I need to check my lottery tickets...

I am so glad someone else suffers from second hand embarrassment as badly as I do. I keep fast forwarding and cringing and yelling and flailing and almost dying when people do embarrassing things on TV.

As someone who shares your embarrassment squick, I will tell you that it gets better. Somewhat. But there are still a few times a season where I just have to get up, walk away, and have my wife tell me when that scene is over. =)

It's Morgan who grows on me. I didn't think much of him at the start but he evolved (more than Chuck IMO).
