You've just written my new favorite story of yours. Being the Tolkien freak that I am, I've often contemplated ways of crossing the Middle Earth legendarium with Stargate, but the way you've written this integrates them perfectly. This may be AU-ish for the legendarium, but it only bends it sufficiently to intertwine it with the 'Gateverse in a way that makes it ring true.

ETA: Just couple of question: how does Rodney know of Elves? Is it safe to assume that Rodney has read Tolkien's works and has figured out that the Professor's literary device of claiming to be 'merely the translator' of the tales is true?
ETA the second: just reread this a couple of times and I must say that I think it was absolutely worth every moment you spent considering and researching this during your writer's block and every moment you spent writing it. *is still gobsmacked*
