Think of them as two separate universes. That's what I do with two conflicting canons; I enjoy both the book-Harry Potter universe and the movie one as two similar but not identical stories, for example. Or the Transformers 'verse. It would be kind of silly to expect a mere two-hour movie to cover the original material in adequate depth.
