That is something I had not thought to use to explain the whole "Kirk & Spock working in non-verbal tandem on the Narada" sequence. It WAS a bit "huh?" when without any conversation they did their guarding-and-meld shtick. It would make a fabulous jumping-off point for a story--how Spock, much later, finally recognizes the oddity of what they did in the heat of the moment, and starts to think about how, etc....
