I know. I don't like that sort of sunny, unrealistic optimism. I think it ignores the essential human condition and cheapens the accomplishments of the people who have succeeded. Having them still struggle with (possibly new variations) on old themes (a) helps us to identify with their struggles and (b) makes their world more textured, interesting, and real.

I hope these new movies explore the potential for darkness even in the supposed communist-equality utopia. That would add a great dimension to the ST universe, and they wouldn't have to descend into the rampant underbelly that was so prominent in the new Battlestar Galactica. (Which they did well, but I think it overwhelmed the optimistic aspects of that universe.)
